Skills Development Zones

The Social Partnership and Public Procurement (Wales) Act (SPPP) represents the first piece of legislation on procurement developed by the Welsh Government and recognises procurement’s role as a key lever in making a difference to wellbeing in Wales.

The Welsh Government have embraced the concept of socially responsible public procurement through the Act, which brings together four principles: Social Partnership, Socially Responsible Procurement, Fair Work, and Sustainable Development.

This means that contracting authorities in Wales will be required to set and publish objectives to achieve “socially responsible procurement goals”.

Procurex Wales will therefore host four skills development zones to reflect this significant procurement reform, providing buyers and suppliers with the opportunity to hear from key figures and decision makers in public procurement and learn how they can effectively engage with and support the Act’s intended outcomes.

The Sustainability and Social Value at Procurex Wales will host several sessions dedicated to exploring why understanding Wales’ public sector procurement sustainability and social value requirements is crucial to securing business in the Welsh public sector marketplace.

The Digital Zone at Procurex Wales will host several sessions dedicated to understanding the implementation and impact of this strategy on the Welsh public sector marketplace.

The Procurement Skills Zone will deliver training and knowledge sessions focusing on how the profession can attract and retain talent, and develop their personnel, processes and technologies to procure more effectively.

Early engagement between buyers and suppliers allows for the efficient and effective delivery of procurement services. The Market Engagement Zone will provide attendees with the opportunity to hear from Wales’ key procurement decision makers on how buyers and suppliers can engage effectively with each other.

The Social Partnership and Public Procurement Act is the first piece of legislation on procurement developed by the Welsh Government. The Procurement Reform Zone will help you to prepare for the changes in Wales’ public procurement processes.
